San Ramon was once home to local Native American tribes. In the 1790s became Mission San Jose grazing land, and then part of Jose Maria Amador’s 16000 acre Rancho San Ramon. American settlers first came to San Ramon in 1850, and many of its founding families are remembered today on the streets, canyons, and hills in and around the city.
With its growing and diverse population, San Ramon was recently rated the 7th safest city in all of California.
